All of those developments took place between 1989 and 1991.
Tim Berners-Lee was born in London, England and graduated in Physics from Oxford University in 1976. He is currently the Director of the World Wide Web Consortium, the group that sets technical standards for the Web.

Microsoft

Microsoft is an American corporation headquartered in Redmond, Washington, USA. Microsoft supports the invention of, manufactures, and licenses goods and services related to computing.

Who Started Microsoft?

Childhood friends, Paul Allen and Bill gates are the co-founders of Microsoft. The pair were total computer geeks in an age when any access to computers was hard to come by. Allen and Gates skipped classes to live and breathe in their school's computer room. Eventually, they hacked the school's computer but instead of expulsion, the duo were offered unlimited computer time in exchange for helping to improve the computer's performance. Bill Gates and Paul Allen even ran their own small company called Traf-O-Data and sold a computer to the city of Seattle for counting city traffic.

Bill Gates Harvard Drop Out

In 1973, Bill Gates left Seattle to attend Harvard University as a pre-law student. However, Gate's first love never left him, as he spent most of his time in Harvard's computer center where he kept improving his programming skills. Soon Paul Allen moved to Boston as well, pressuring Gates to quit Harvard so that the team could work full-time together on their projects. Bill Gates was uncertain of what to do, however, fate stepped in.

The Birth of Microsoft

In January 1975, Paul Allen read an article about the Altair 8800 microcomputer in Popular Electronics magazine. He showed the article to Bill.
Bill Gates called MITS, the makers of the Altair, and offered his and Paul Allen's services to write a version of the new BASIC programming language for the Altair.
In eight weeks, Allen and Gates were able to demonstrate their program to MITS, who agreed to distribute and market the product under the name of Altair BASIC.
The Altair deal inspired Gates and Allen to form their own software company, and Microsoft was started on April 4, 1975, with Bill Gates as the first CEO.

Where Did The Name Microsoft Come From?

On July 29, 1975, Bill Gates used the name "Micro-soft" in a letter to Paul Allen to refer to their partnership. The name was registered with the secretary of state of New Mexico on November 26, 1976.
In August 1977, the company opened their first international office in Japan, called ASCII Microsoft.
In 1981, the company incorporated in the state of Washington and became Microsoft Inc. Bill Gates was the President of the Company and the Chairman of the Board, and Paul Allen was the Executive VP.

History of Java.....

Since 1995, Java has changed our world . . . and our expectations...

Today, with technology such a part of our daily lives, we take it for granted that we can be connected and access applications and content anywhere, anytime. Because of Java, we expect digital devices to be smarter, more functional, and way more entertaining.

In the early 90s, extending the power of network computing to the activities of everyday life was a radical vision. In 1991, a small group of Sun engineers called the "Green Team" believed that the next wave in computing was the union of digital consumer devices and computers. Led by James Gosling, the team worked around the clock and created the programming language that would revolutionize our world – Java.

The original plan was for the Star7 operating system to be developed in C++ but rejected the idea for several reasons. As a result we have new language that was better for the purposes of the Green project than C++ developed by Gosling. He called the language Oak in honor of a tree that could be seen from his office window.
James Gosling was part of Green, an isolated research project at Sun that was studying how to put computers into everyday household items like thoughtful toasters, sagacious Salad Shooters and lucid lamps. The group also wanted these devices to communicate with each other.
So The Greens built a prototype device called Star7. This gadget was a handheld remote control operated by touching animated objects on the screen. The universe featured Duke-immortalized later as Java's mascot

Sun found that Oak could not be trademarked because of a product already using the name.
After sessions in January 1995, The meeting, arranged by Kim Polese (marketing person) where about a dozen people got together to brainstorm with James Gosling, a vice president and fellow of Sun, and the author of Oak, the final suggest names were  Silk, DNA, Ruby, WRL and Java by the team in meeting But the other names could not trademark. So finally JAVA was the name chosen because it sounded the coolest and decided to go ahead with it and name was first suggested by Chris Warth.

Today, Java not only permeates the Internet, but also is the invisible force behind many of the applications and devices that power our day-to-day lives. From mobile phones to handheld devices, games and navigation systems to e-business solutions, Java is everywhere!

REASON FOR THE SYMBOL

Java is an Island where coffee is made and exported. The bean grown there are called  Java beans, and the coffee is called Java  coffee. In the US, Java is slang for coffee in general. So it only makes sense that Sun would  use cup of coffee for the Java logo (they also use a coffee bean for some of their Java-based programs).

                      RAJINI'S  ROBOT

He can get millions raving about tricks like getting a cigarette somersault and land in his mouth or a pair of shades  land on his eyes from mid-air, romance  a woman onscreen  half his age and rake in over Rs 100 Croce in the first  week of his film's release. That's the phenomenon called Rajinikanth.

"Robot", the Rajinikanth- starrer which became the second highest grosser among the Indian films and spawned a slew of Rajini jokes, was set to come to the laboratory of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad(IIM-A).

As a Part of an elective course called "Contemporary Film Industry : A Business Perspective", students of the postgraduate programme at IIM-A would taken up "Robot" or "Enthiran" as a case to analyse the business of cinema and its success story. The course  will also study 'Muthu' another Tamil film starring Rajinikanth. The movie was later translated into Japanese as 'Muthu: The Dancing Maharaja' which become a raging phenomenon in that country.

THE MAN OF CENTURY

INTRODUCTION
Dhirajlal Hirachand Ambani better known as Dhirubhai Ambani who founded Reliance Industries in Mumbai. He had brought about the equity culture in India in the late seventies. He is regarded as an icon for enterprise in India. A man far ahead of his times, he epitomized the dauntless entrepreneurial spirit 'dare to dream and learn to excel'. He dared to dream on a scale unimaginable before in Indian industry.

HIS BIRTH
Dhirubhai Ambani alias Dhirajlal Hirachand Ambani was born on 28 December 1932, at Chorwad, Junagadh (now the state of Gujarat, India) to Hirachand Gordhanbhai. Ambani and Jamnaben in a Modh family. He was the second son of a school teacher He was married to Kokilaben and had two sons, Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani and two daughters, Nina Kothari and Deepti Salgaocar.

HIS EARLY LIFE
Dhirubhai Ambani started his entrepreneurial career by selling bhajias to pilgrims in Mount Girnar over the weekends. He moved to Aden, Yemen after completing his matriculation at the age of 16. He worked there as a gas-station attendant, and as a clerk in an oil company.

CARRIER IN BUSINESS
In 1962, Dhirubhai returned to India and started the Reliance Commercial Corporation with a capital of Rs.15,000. The primary business of Reliance Commercial Corporation was to import polyester yarn and export spices. The first office of the Reliance Commercial Corporation was set up at the Narsinathan Street in Masjid Bunder. It was a 350 Sq. Ft. room with a telephone, one table and three chairs. Initially, they had two assistants to help them with their business.
In 1965, Champaklal Damani and Dhirubhai Ambani ended their partnership and Dhirubhai started on his own. It is believed that both had different temperaments and a different take on how to conduct business. While Mr. Damani was a cautious trader and did not believe in building yarn inventories, Dhirubhai was a known risk taker and he considered that building inventories, anticipating a price rise, and making profits through that was good for growth.

RELIANCE
In 1966, he started his first textile mill at Naroda, near Ahmedabad  and started the brand 'Vimal'. He built India's largest private sector company, Reliance India Limited, from a scratch. Over time he diversified his business into a core specialization in petrochemicals with additional interests in telecommunications, information technology, energy, power, retail, textiles, infrastructure services, capital markets, and logistics.

HIS EQUITY CULTURE
Dhirubhai Ambani is credited with revolutionizing capital markets in India by attracting millions of retail investors in a market till then dominated by financial institutions. From nothing, he generated billions of rupees in wealth for those who put their trust in his companies. Due to his efforts and with the help of innovative instruments like the convertible debenture, Reliance quickly became a favorite of the stock market in the 1980s. In 1992, Reliance became the first Indian company to raise money in global markets. Reliance also became the first Indian company to feature in Forbes 500 list.

HIS THOUGHTS
Dhirubhai was also the quintessentially modern man,the man of the new millennium. This was clearly reflected in his passion for mega-sized projects, the most advanced technology and the highest level of productivity. The corporate philosophy he followed was short, simple and succinct "Think big. Think differently. Think fast. Think ahead. Aim for the best". He inspired the Reliance team to do better than the best—not only in India but in the world. He was able to create an unbreakable bond of implicit trust between him and his shareholders, who placed their savings in his care. For him, his people were his most important asset.

SOME OF HIS QUOTES
"Our dreams have to be bigger. Our ambitions higher. Our commitment deeper. And our efforts greater. This is my dream for Reliance and for India."; "You do not require an invitation to make profits."; "Meeting the deadlines is not good enough, beating the deadlines is my expectation."; and "Don't give up, courage is my conviction."

HIS AWARDS

  • He was named The Indian Entrepreneur of the 20th Century by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
  • In June 1998, he was awarded the Dean's Medal by The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, for setting an outstanding example of leadership.
  • In 2000, A poll conducted by The Times of India voted him "greatest creator of wealth in the century".
  • In November 2000, he was conferred the 'Man of the Century' award by Chemtech Foundation and Chemical Engineering World for his contribution to the growth and development of the chemical industry in India.
HIS DEATH
Dhirubhai Ambani died on July 6, 2002 at Mumbai after suffering a brain stroke. The life journey of the most enterprising Indian entrepreneur is reminiscent of the rags to riches story. He is remembered as the one who rewrote Indian corporate history and built a truly global corporate group. His life and achievements prove that backed by confidence, courage and conviction, man can achieve the impossible. His legacy is being carried on by his sons Mukesh and Anil.

After the death of Dhirubhai Ambani, the group was split into Reliance Industries Limited, headed by Mukesh Ambani, and Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (Reliance ADA Group), headed by Anil Ambani.
